YESTERDAY WE....

took a break from painting the room and did yard work.

Finally got round to planting the coneflowers.  We couldn't plant in the spot I wanted as Gregg found a big rock, that I swear if we dug down deep enough, it probably would turn into a huge boulder.  There are so many of these in our yard, we keep hitting them whenever we try to plant anything.

I tidied up the roses on the end of the house while Gregg worked in the front.  I also did some weeding until he told me to knock it off. I had that focused look on my face that told him I would be there til way past sundown, and truth be told I was getting tired.  There is a spot in the back where the weeds are taking over.  I need a scythe!  Okay, not that bad but you get the drift.  We also have to be very careful because there is poison ivy out back.  We had a professional come in after one nasty episode after Gregg did the weeding.  He had to make a trip to the doctor and it has made us wary of tackling it by ourselves.  However, the dreaded stuff is starting to come back and it has to be taken care of.

Back to painting today and back to weeding tomorrow. It is going to be in the 90s this week but last night it was lovely and cool, and we left the windows open.  Nothing like that sweet breeze for good sleeping, and we both slept like logs.

Earlier in the day we were out and about running errands.  The home gardening store, the supermarket and a new sandwich shop for lunch.  The day went by fast, so nothing too exciting but it was fun to us and good to get out.

My photos today were taken in the front of the garden center where there was a small pond. They only had three koi swimming around but they were very pretty.  One was a solid dark color that was hard to make out as it was in a shaded area, but it had the prettiest smoky white tail fin.  I like koi, a beautiful fish and so pleasant to observe.

I hope you all have a great day today.  Thanks again for all the wonderful comments you leave.

  1. I hope you get painting the room done faster than I. Used to I could go in and paint a ceiling, trim and the walls in one day. I have been working on one room for over two months now. Painting is done but I took up carpet and working on laying a floor now. I can on get to these things on good days and the good days are few and far between lately. Beautiful pics. My brother has a pond with big fish in there and they noticed and owl dropping down and grabbing some fish late in the evening....

    1. Thank you Pam. It is a slow process as there is always something that takes us away from it but we are In no rush. As long as we keep plodding along, I am fine with that. Interesting about your brother's pond. I have seen netting on sale at the garden center. I talked to someone quite a while ago who had put down the netting to stop a great blue heron stealing their fish.

    1. Thank you Sandra, I wish but I think koi are safe from me :) I enjoy seeing them in places like this one. I tend to zone out when there is a task to do. I start to turn all kinds of colors in the summer when I am outside and then I start to feel ill. I haven't changed that pattern in 40 years. He is my weather vane :)))

  5. Beautiful and lovely looking fish, that garden center must be pretty popular and the fish must have lots of admirers. Warm greetings to you and best wishes!

    1. Hi Ginny, I have heard of the saying. A good reminder. I think the fact that they were in shade helped a lot with my photos.

  7. Hi Denise, this gardening lark can be hard work, we have a very large garden as you have seen from my blog having the owls, but having kept it simple its relatively easy to keep under control. Beautiful Koi, shame they are not yours. All the best, John

I am glad that Gregg convinced you to stop for the day. A gardener's work is NEVER done.

  9. Wonderful photos of the beautiful fish!
I have a battle with poison ivy, too. I wear long rubber kitchen gloves, the kind that come up to the elbows, to pull it out. Be careful pulling the gloves off. You don't want to touch the parts that have been in contact with the poison ivy. So far, so good.

    1. Thank you Lea, I also appreciate the advice on how to handle the poison ivy. After seeing what hubs went through, weeding makes me a little nervous.

Good on Gregg's "knock it off" ... Remember to pace yourself with those heavy outdoor jobs ... wish I'd taken my own advice a few years back ;D)
Cheers now and thanks for those gorgeous photos!

    1. Thanks Sue, you are very welcome and yes, they are wonderful to watch. I will pace myself and thank you for the advice. It will be getting way too hot for me to get out there, so I have to give myself a good talking to also :)

  14. Weeding and soil cultivation take some of the pleasure out of flowers.

  17. Enjoyed looking at your fish photographs. I had koi carp in my garden 'pond' and loved them. I too thought they were in your garden! Don't ask what happened to my fish or the pond!

  19. Hello, I do not mind painting but weeding is awful for my knees and other body parts, LOL. The fish are so pretty and colorful. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!

  20. I always find something photo worthy at Garden Centers and Farm stores -- but I think your koi photos are some of the best examples I've ever seen. Just got back from lunch at our oldest grandson and gdil's new home (first home) ... bought while we were away and already have a garden in and lovely flowers .... but they also 'discovered" bad patch of poison oak in one corner. Denae was just getting over her terrible reaction. It's a big hazard around these parts. (from what I gather it is the same as poison ivy as far as the poison is concerned).

    1. Very sweet of you to say so Sallie, thank you so much :) oh dear, I am so sorry about Denai's bad reaction to the poison oak. It truly is horrible stuff as is the poison ivy. A hard lesson learned for all of us, we had no idea it was there but now we recognize it readily.

  22. A while back I did a post about the weed puller gadget that David bought at Home Depot. It allows you to pull weeds while standing up. Prevents back pain. No bending over nor squatting.
